The Annecy International Animation Film Festival<\/strong> (Festival international du film d’animation d’Annecy) is the world’s leading festival specialising in animated film. From 13 to 18 June, it will be holding its 61st edition, bringing together the world’s leading animation professionals and highlighting the richness and creative dynamism of the sector.<\/p>\n

The event’s programme includes exclusive presentations of the latest animation works, demonstrations of the latest and future trends, meetings with experienced directors and emerging talents, among other activities.<\/p>\n

‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ to open Annecy 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The highly anticipated Minions sequel, ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’, will open the festival with a screening at the Grande Salle de Bonlieu for its world premiere next Monday, June 13.<\/p>\n

“The enthusiastic audience at Annecy is the best there is to celebrate the return of this happy team that is the symbol of Illumination’s success,” said Marcel Jean, artistic director of the festival. “It is an opportunity for the Festival to highlight both French and American expertise. We thank Illumination and Universal Pictures for offering this wonderful gift to festival-goers.”<\/p>\n

The latest production from Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, along with Janet Healy and Chris Renaud is directed by Kyle Balda. It tells the story of how Gru met his Minions and came to form the most despicable crew in cinema.<\/p>\n

The productions in the Official section <\/strong><\/h3>\n

A key element of the festival is the official competition of animated films of various techniques (traditional, cut-out, claymation, 3DCG, etc.), classified in the following categories:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Feature films<\/li>\n
  • Short films<\/li>\n
  • Films produced for television and advertising<\/li>\n
  • Student films<\/li>\n
  • Films made for the Internet (since 2002)<\/li>\n
  • Feature films contrechamp in competition (since 2007)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    For the 2022 edition, the festival has received more than 3,000 films from around 100 countries. The selection for the 2022 Annecy Festival is diverse. According to the artistic director of the Festival d’Annecy, Marcel Jean, “it bears witness to the vitality of the animation sector and the remarkable development of worldwide production in recent years. Ten feature films and thirty-eight short films have been selected for the official competition of the 61st Festival International du Film d’Animation d’Annecy.<\/p>\n

    An international jury will watch and vote for the winning production in each category, which will be announced at the closing ceremony of the event on 18 June. This year’s jury is made up of 18 industry experts from 13 countries.<\/p>\n

    Mifa 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) will take place from 14 to 17 June. The sector’s unmissable event that brings together all professionals in the animation industry, from short films to feature films and series. Exhibitors, buyers, distributors, programmers, producers, artists, publishers and investors meet annually in this space to learn about projects in development, discuss current industry news and network. Mifa is the perfect showcase for the international development of companies in the sector.<\/p>\n
